Spaix Classic V2 - Overview Functionalities

Spaix Classic is the Windows-based selection, configuration and supply system for centrifugal pumps. Thus, Spaix can be used for the detailed technical selection and configuration of almost all types of centrifugal pumps and their special constructional features. The user interface can be individually adjusted for each pump in order to clearly show the options available and to hide superfluous or non-applicable information.

The pump selection program consists of the Hydraulic Selection via the area of application, the duty point and additional parameters, the Product Selection Browser as a direct access by series and pump type as well as the Spare-Parts Selection from part lists or drawings.

Hydraulic Selection

Operating data specification

The hydraulic selection allows the complete selection and configuration of the pump system according to given operating conditions. In the Simplified Selection the dialog will be shown with the minimum of necessary input fields. In the Advanced Selection the user can specify additional selection parameters and a search for pumps from different areas of application or different suppliers can be run (as far as is available in the database).

The connection to the friction loss calculation program Spaix PipeCalc (optional module) supports the duty point calculation. The calculation results and the data sheets will be integrated automatically into the PumpSelector project.

The pump installation can be designed as a single pump or as two pumps in parallel or serial operation. The selection of twin-head pumps and boosters is also supported, whereby the particular features of booster sets are reflected in a special user interface.

Search result

Suitable pumps are listed with their major characteristics in a table. By a mouse-click the list can be sorted according to individual table columns or individual filters can be determined.

All configuration options of the pump in question are clearly summarised on the screen.

The software converts the pump characteristic curves to the operating conditions. So for high-viscous fluids the method according to Hydraulic Institute standards will be applied.

If a mag-drive, gear or integrated non-return valve is used, then Spaix calculates the resulting characteristic curves. Taking the motor performance into account enables the characteristic hydraulic curves to be determined exactly.

Pump curve optimisation can be effected by impeller trimming, by changing the speed, by modifying the vane angle for propeller pumps or by throttling. In accordance with the calculated shaft power and the manufacturer's settings, the pump system can be assembled by means of the pump, motor, coupling and base plate modules. An extensive number of further configuration options can be used depending on the pump construction, e.g. Material selection, shaft seal, bearing frame, line shaft, coupling protection, to name but a few. The selection will be done considering the operating conditions including the medium-material-resistance. Special finishes can also be integrated via product versions, e.g. Special coatings, which do not require additional design work.

The assembled dimensions will be calculated with the selected components related to the formulas specified in the pump record.

The selected configuration is also taken into account to determine the price of the pump system. The expanded price calculation algorithm can be applied for the complete system or for single components according to the settings saved in the database.

The incorporation of external documents enables the user to obtain additional information in order to assist his selection.

The energy cost calculation allows the comparison of pumps with the focus on economic aspects. The loading profile can be defined individually.

Product Selection Browser

As an alternative to the Hydraulic Selection, a pump can be selected and configured in the Product Selection Browser. In order to simplify navigation through the pump series, pictograms visualise the pumps. Furthermore, there are the same functions as are found in the search result of the hydraulic selection.

Accessory Selection

Accessory selection has been further improved in Spaix V2. Various selection levels such as, for example, electrical and mechanical accessories can be defined via classifications. The user is guided precisely to the correct additional components according to the current pump configuration and type of installation. Another new feature is the possibility of incorporating those selection accessories that have been recommended in a manufacturer's specifications. The direct selection of accessories through designation or article number as well as manual article selection complete the project work.

Spare Parts Selection

The spare parts catalogue offers systematic selection whilst taking into account different revisions. The selection of parts can be effected either by a mouse click onto the exploded view or sectional drawing, or by selecting from the parts list.

Quoting and Project Handling

The integrated calculation supports the quick and easy preparation of perfect quotations and other documentation. Items can be marked as alternative items, text or “price inclusive”.

The output is printed on data sheets, which can be designed by the user using a graphics editor. Spaix V2 has been expanded by additional fields e.g. Editable technical data or item number fields for technical data sheets. The software comes with a collection of prepared default data sheets like the characteristic curve sheet, the dimensioning data sheet, or the pump data sheet in accordance with API 610.

Project management, the direct data exchange via e-mail and the implemented data exchange interfaces round off the functional range of this product.

Integration of Web and Windows Versions

The increasing integration of web-based and Windows-based applications becomes more and more important for the development of pump selection software. The aim is to utilise the advantages of both versions in an optimum fashion. The greatest advantage of the internet application is its up-to-date nature. Spaix V2 incorporates an integrated internet update function by means of which the software can be automatically updated. Pump manufacturers, who pass on software to their customers using CD licences, can also use the function for data changes. This does away with the need for expensive CD production for price or data updates. Furthermore, with data group management the database can also be adapted to different local markets without any problems.

User Groups

The database can be adapted to local markets without any problem using the user group management facility. Thus, different price lists can be included in one database. Local products or product versions can be access restricted to certain user groups and special program functions can be limited for internal use only. Even the editing of the technical data can be released for a certain user group. This function makes it easy to produce bids for special finishes.

The new user group management facility has been further improved and a password function has been added.

Interfaces

To exchange data with other systems Spaix supports different interfaces and file formats:
  • PDF export of data sheets
  • Catalogue and project interface according to the standard, VDMA 24278
  • CEF 2.0 catalogue exchange format
  • DXF, WMF and BMP files for technical drawings
  • Export of characteristic curve diagrams in various graphic formats
